Letter: Evidence of Iraq’s WMD is overwhelming
Tuesday, July 8, 2003 | 8:39 a.m.
President Bush told us before the attack that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. What he said has been proven true by the WMD discoveries that have been widely reported by the news media. Perhaps there are more, but we should all recall these from the media reports:
How strong must proof be? It must be preponderant proof, weighing strongly toward showing Iraq made and stored WMD. And here we have such proof. These discoveries show Iraq made and stored WMD.
Additional to these discoveries, these three illicit practices were conducted by Iraq in the years preceding this war: An active program of making and storing biological weapons, found in 1998 by UNSCOM (United Nations Special Commission) and confirmed by 12 nations of the U.N.; Iraq has long threatened to use WMD, even though they are barred by treaty from making and storing them; and Iraq has incessantly stonewalled any complete inspection by the United Nations for weapons of mass destruction. These illegal practices are additional proof that for many years Iraq made and stored WMD.
Further discoveries are probable in the weeks and months to come. Our military special forces will continue their intense search for WMD, Saddam, and bin Laden.
