An off-duty Metro Police officer who shot and killed a would-be robber at a fireworks stand July 1 has been identified as Robert D. Johnson, 42, an 11-year veteran of Metro.
Johnson is a member of the K-9 unit, Metro spokeswoman Carla Alston said.
Johnson had been involved in three other shootings: one in November 1996 at the Blue Diamond Truck Stop, one in August 1999 and another in January 2000. None of the people shot was fatally wounded, and in all three incidents, Metro's use-of-force board ruled the shootings justified.
