Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003 | 9:16 a.m.
KENNY HOWARD
School: Las Vegas
Class: Junior
Sport: Basketball
Last week: As Las Vegas continues to charge toward the summit of the Northeast Division, Kenny Howard is leading the way, keying a pair of Wildcats victories last week. Las Vegas survived a nailbiter against Rancho Friday, winning 63-61 thanks in large part to Howard's 32 points. He scored 23 of that total in the second half. Howard preceded that effort with a 25-point showing in the Wildcats' 77-59 triumph over Valley. The junior guard converted six 3-pointers in the contest, including four in the second half.
KAYLA LAMBERT
School: Palo Verde
Class: Sophomore
Sport: Soccer
Last week: Reach a hand into the girls soccer talent pool in the Northwest Division, and you are bound to grab an excellent player such as Lambert. The sophomore striker scored three goals last week to lead Palo Verde to victories over Mojave and Cimarron-Memorial. Lambert found the back of the net twice against the Rattlers in the Panthers' 6-0 win, then followed up by tallying against Cimarron in a key 2-1 division victory. Palo Verde holds down second place in the Northwest.
