Geologist joins DRI Board of Trustees

A Boston University professor who specializes in arid lands and remote sensing research has been elected to a three-year term on the Desert Research Institute Board of Trustees.
Farouk El-Baz began his appointment this month. He is a geologist and a veteran of the Apollo space program. He has spent much of his career studying the origin and evolution of arid landforms in desert regions worldwide.
He is a pioneer in the analysis of satellite images to explain the patterns of sand dunes and to reveal the topography beneath the sands.
