For the fifth consecutive month, taxable sales reported by Nevada merchants grew in November, up 2.8 percent from the previous year, as the state slowly crawls out of the slump caused by the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The state Taxation Department on Friday said taxable sales reached $2.6 billion, with restaurants, bars and clothing stores showing the biggest gain. The 2.8 percent increase was the second-biggest percentage gain since October 2001, but was below the 7.5 percent jump reported last September.
Tax collections from the sales reached $189.7 million, up 4.3 percent compared with November 2001.
Merchants in Clark County reported sales of $1.9 billion, up 4.8 percent from a year ago. It was the second-highest percentage gain since May 2001.
