Buck, Robinson build campaign war chests

Monday, Jan. 27, 2003 | 8:33 a.m.

Preparing for a re-election push, North Las Vegas Councilwoman Shari Buck more than tripled her campaign war chest last year, ending 2002 with about $90,000 in her account, according to campaign finance reports.

Meanwhile Councilman William Robinson, who also plans to seek re-election this year, started 2002 with no money in his campaign account, received no contributions and spent no money on his campaign in 2002, according to his reports.

But since Jan. 1, Robinson has raised $70,000 to $80,000 through two campaign fund-raisers, he said.

Robinson's reports seem to conflict with reports from the previous year that showed he ended 2001 with about $3,000 in his campaign account. Robinson, a councilman since 1983, said his son is his campaign treasurer and might have made a mistake.

"I need to go back and look at it," Robinson said.

Robinson and Buck are the only North Las Vegas elected officials whose terms end this year. Both have said they plan to run again. North Las Vegas' 2003 primary election is scheduled for April 8, and the general election will be June 3.

The city's other elected leaders' terms end in 2005.

Buck's account was bolstered by $71,800 in contributions last year, including $10,000 from North Valley Enterprises LLC, a partnership between the Del Webb Corp. and American Nevada Corp., which is owned by the Greenspun family that also own the Las Vegas Sun. North Valley Enterprises is the development company behind the Aliante master-planned community.
