Thirty-eight awards were presented Wednesday by the City of Henderson's Economic Development Division and the Henderson Development Association to companies, developers and officials responsible for an estimated $108.5 million in new economic activity in the city last year.
"We added 1,000 new employees, $24.6 million in new payroll, $2.4 million in new local business purchases and $81.5 million in new construction" in 2002, said Bob Cooper, the city's economic development manager at its fourth annual economic development awards at the Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas resort.
Since 1999, 64 non-hospitality, non-retail firms have been attracted to Henderson, occupying more than 2.5 million square feet of office and industrial space, providing more than 4,500 jobs and generating an economic impact of more than $600 million, he said.
The event, which was attended by more than 400 business leaders and city officials, recognized 16 firms that relocated to Henderson and eight local businesses that expanded in the city. Eight developers were recognized for creating 705,000 square feet of office and industrial space and four redevelopment projects were honored.
The new-to-Henderson companies that were honored were Brown & Brown of Nevada, Bentley International, BTB Products, EICON, Intermodal Bridge Services, Interstate Bakeries Corp., JMA Architects, Magikan/Sinclair Worldwide Inc., Marz Distribution, Milgard Windows, Nevada Neurological Consultants, Nomad, Ramix, RIM Solutions, Total Recall and Thies Technology.
Local business expansions that were recognized were AK Wholesale, Cabinet West Distributors, First American Title Co. of Nevada, Ford Credit, Environ Trading, IDC, Longevity Network and Nevada Eye & Ear.
Developers that were honored include American Nevada Corp., Business Properties Group, Conde Del Mar, Frey Development, L.M. Leany, Marv Schmidt, Pacific Properties and Plise Development and Construction. Four redevelopment projects and owners named were Leonard and Sonya Smith, Emery's Italian Cuisine and Steakhouse, PDA Engineering and Old Town Gallery.
