High school: Silverado ('02)
Where she is now: Utah State
Class: Freshman
Sport: Gymnastics
Currently: As just a freshman in the Aggies' program, Meagan Nelson is already becoming a standout performer in gymnastics. Recently selected Utah State athlete of the week, Nelson turned heads by breaking 39.000 in her first two all-around competitions. Against Oklahoma, Nelson scored 39.050, including a 9.875 in the floor exercise to place third. That showing helped Nelson also claim third place in the all-around competition. Nelson has helped Utah State to a 2-2 start, with its first home meet upcoming Friday.
Looking back: Although there is no gymnastics competition within the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association, Nelson made her mark in Southern Nevada. Nelson competed as a Level 10 gymnast for Cassie Rice and Jill Enritta at GymCats Gymnastics. She owns Level 10 titles at the state level in the bars, floor, vault and all-around. Nelson took second in the all-around at the state meet in 2001 and finished 11th at the Level 10 nationals.
