Letter: Give everyone an equal chance

Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003 | 8:53 a.m.

Once again "affirmative action" takes center stage, but this time with President Bush at the helm. Minorities have no qualms when the scales tilt their way. You would expect all Americans to want equal treatment so everyone may benefit.

Whether giving points or anything else not properly earned because you're considered a minority is ludicrous and shows favoritism. This action has proven to be unconstitutional.

Because of intermarriage, many are confused as to who is a minority. I believe you should have a bloodline of 100 percent to qualify as a true minority or each parent must be a minority from a different race.

Why should Caucasians be punished for being 100 percent white? Others are not sure of their true bloodline going back many years and assume color is the answer to where they come from. We have blacks and white, both born in Africa, now considered African-American, living here and many have mixed bloodlines.

Somewhere we must draw the line. These are issues our court system should think about. Too many are using whatever it takes to get a piece of the pie. Let's get rid of "affirmative action" so that everyone gets a fair and equal chance.
