Family events
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and St. Andrews Society present "Something Scottish" in observation of Scottish Heritage Month, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the Rainbow Library, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive. Admission is free. 223-8040.
Talent contest
Las Vegas Cultural Affairs Division's "The Search for Talent Contest" will accept entries until 2 p.m. Saturday for people ages 6 to 18. Entry forms are available at Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Registration fees are $10. 229-6211.
Family art
Henderson's Parks and Recreation presents "Artis Fartissimo," an interactive arts experience for parents and children at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday at the Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway. Admission is $20 for parent and child; additional children are $5. 492-4621.
Charity event
Saloon Sweethearts and the Las Vegas Elks Lodge will host a "Blues & BBQ Benefit" at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Las Vegas Elks Lodge, 4100 W. Charleston Blvd. Moody Scott will provide the entertainment, and there will be cocktails, dinner, gift booths and an auction. Proceeds benefit the Saloon Sweethearts fight against Breast Cancer. Admission is $25.
Poetry
Las Vegas Cultural Affairs Division presents "Poets' Corner" hosted by Keith Brantley and Pendelita Toney at 7 p.m. today at West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Admission is free. 229-4800.
Poetry contest
Celestial Arts is sponsoring a poetry contest for the Henderson area. Poems should be 21 lines or less. Deadline is Jan. 31. Submit entries to Celestial Arts, P.O. Box 1140, Talent, OR 97540.
