Salomon Alires

Salomon Alires, 75, of Las Vegas, died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 24, 1927, in Las Vegas, N.M. A resident for 52 years, he was a retired carpenter foreman, a World War II and Korean War Navy veteran, a member of Carpenters Local 1780, founding president of the Las Vegas chapter of Parents Without Partners, a Las Vegas Hilton Hall of Fame Employee, chairman of the Child and Youth Committee, a chaplain and in the Color Guard for the American Legion and a former Cub Scouts scoutmaster.

He is survived by two daughters, Lori Asher of Agoura Hills, Calif., and Dorothy Aragon of Las Vegas; three sons, Luis Alires and Joseph Alires, both of Las Vegas, and Patrick Alires of Twin Falls, Idaho; two stepdaughters, Sharon Williams and Hope Sufuentes, both of Las Vegas; two stepsons, Tim Sandy of Las Vegas and Carlos Montano of Santa Fe, N.M.; two sisters, Andrea Collins of Albuquerque and Alice Maestas of Las Vegas, N.M.; one brother, Dan Alires of Las Cruces, N.M.; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. today with a 6:30 p.m. rosary in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Graveside services will be 10:40 a.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Tommie James Almond III, 56, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 30, 1952, in Saginaw, Mich. A resident for 20 years, he was a dealer.

Wesley B. Bear

Wesley B. Bear, 94, of North Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local health care center. A retired post office supervisor and World War II Marine Corps veteran, he was born May 8, 1908, in Kansas City, Mo.

He is survived by one daughter, Rose; one son, Ronald Bear, and one sister, Doris Ashley, both of Denver; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Frederick William Becker IV

Frederick William Becker IV, 46, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born May 26, 1956, in Ann Arbor, Mich. A resident for many years, he was an electrician.

Marjorie Ruth Benson

Marjorie Ruth Benson, 86, of Las Vegas died Jan. 1 in Las Vegas. She was born Jan. 31, 1916, in New York City. A resident for nine years, she was a casting director from 1952 to 1962 in Hollywood and Las Vegas.

She is survived by one son, Steven A. Benson of Pahrump.

William A. Brooks, 63, of North Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born March 14, 1939, in Mathewstown, Md. A resident for 3 1/2 years, he was a retired Air Force tech sergeant and Vietnam War veteran.

Malcolm Alexander Cameron

Malcolm Alexander Cameron, 78, of Las Vegas died Jan. 5 in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 2, 1925, in Edmonton, Alberta. A resident for 1 1/2 years, he was a farmer and a Canadian Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Yvonne; five sons, David, Ronald, Eric and Bryan, all of Edmonton, and Henry of British Columbia; one daughter, Lorraine Monahan of Calgary, Alberta; and five grandchildren.

Bernice Campbell, 73, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local care center. She was born Jan. 3, 1930, in Rupert, Idaho. A resident for 41 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by three daughters, Mona L. Litster, Kim E. Mummey and Tammy L. DeLong, all of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Leone Chamberlain

Leone Chamberlain, 91, of Boulder City died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Nov. 29, 1911, in Salt Lake City. A resident for 54 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by three daughters, Shirley Jacobson of Henderson, Judy Chamberlain-Fewell of Caliente and Terry Payne of Boulder City; one son, Jaron Chamberlain of Cerritos, Calif.; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Additional visitation is scheduled one hour prior to an 11 a.m. service in the Fifth Street LDS chapel in Boulder City. Burial will follow in Boulder City Cemetery, 501 Adams Blvd.

Mary Derderian

Mary Derderian, 93, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born May 28, 1909, in Philadelphia. A resident for 24 years, she was a homemaker, a member of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary and the Armenian Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Alicia Vaughan of Las Vegas and Michele Haman of Southington, Conn.; one granddaughter; and two great-grandsons.

Wilbur T. Elliot

Wilbur T. Elliot, 86, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born June 3. 1916, in Cambridge, Mass. A resident for 34 years, he was a driver for the Clark County School District.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; two sons, Walter Elliot and William Elliot, and two daughters, Elizabeth Kelly of Las Vegas and Catherine Scott of Washington state; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Kathleen Marie Friedman, 58, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 31, 1944, in Marshfield, Wis. A resident for 10 years, she was a a district materials management specialist for the U.S. Postal Service.

She is survived by her husband, Seymour; one daughter, Courtney K. Friedman of Las Vegas; her mother and stepfather, Ann Marie and Roger Mauss of Henderson; and two brothers, Kenneth Campbell of Stayton, Ore., and Tom Mauss of Fullerton, Calif.; and one sister, Joni Mays of Anaheim, Calif.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.

She is survived by her husband, Herb; two sons, Jerry Ozmore and Dale Ozmore, both of Las Vegas; two stepdaughters, Donna Bass of Pensacola, Fla., and Debbie Ritchie of Tucson; one stepson, C.J. Henry of Amargosa Valley; five brothers, Carl Carter of Burbank, Calif., Webster Carter of Bishop, Calif., Edward Carter and Ronald Piot, both of Las Vegas, and Lawrence Piot of Panorama City, Calif.; one sister, Carolyn Bursumian of Rathdrum, Idaho; and 11 grandchildren.

Wanda Marie Hinton aka Berry

Wanda Marie Hinton aka Berry, 44, of Las Vegas died Jan. 8 in Las Vegas. She was born April 18, 1958, in Mississippi. A resident for four years, she was a homemaker and an Air Force veteran.

She is survived by one daughter, Christina Hinton of Dallas; her parents, Bob and Barbara Berry, and one sister, Deborah Lopez, both of Las Vegas.

Fred Lee Hunter Jr.

Fred Lee Hunter Jr., 41, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 10, 1961, in California. A resident for three years, he was a plumbers apprentice and a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Union.

He is survived by his mother, Jessie Hunter of Los Angeles; and two sisters, LaShell Holton of Portland, Ore., and Yolonda Hunter of Corona, Calif.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Thursday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Bunkers Chapel. A private burial will follow.

Pauline D. Hurd

Pauline D. Hurd, 75, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born Jan. 11, 1928, in Minnesota. A resident for 14 years, he was a dental hygienist.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; four sons, James, William, Jack and Robert; two daughters, Leigh and Julie; three brothers, Virgil, Bob and Dick; and 12 grandchildren.

Epifania Jimenez

Epifania Jimenez, 68, of Henderson died Tuesday in Henderson. She was born April 7, 1934, Teocaltiche, Mexico. A resident for 30 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Laura Romero of Las Vegas and Lourdes Moses of Henderson; three sons, Art Jimenez of Las Vegas, Victor Jimenez of New York City and Ricardo Jimenez of Henderson; and eight grandchildren.

William E. Johnston

William E. Johnston, 71, of Las Vegas died Nov. 30 in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 19, 1931, in Paris, Mo. A resident for 10 years, he was a retired salesman in the fashion industry.

He is survived by three daughters, Lynette Dickson of Grand Forks, N.D., Jeanni Russ of Lake Zurich, Ill., and Cyndi Billings of Fort Wayne, Ind.; one son, Blaine Johnston of Spring Grove, Ill.; and nine grandchildren.

Catherine L. Kinney, 82, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born June 15, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for 25 years, she was a retired telephone operator and a World War II Army veteran.

She is survived by three sons, Raymond L. Kinney of Redondo Beach, Calif., B. Eric Kinney of Gig Harbor, Wash., and James L. Kinney of Las Vegas; one brother, James Loff of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and one sister, Cecelia Loff of Trenton, N.J.

Ronald Marshall, 48, of Las Vegas died Sunday in North Las Vegas. He was born April 12, 1954, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, he was a cleaner for a carpet cleaning business.

He is survived by one daughter, Destiny Stwalley of Las Vegas; his mother and stepfather, Iola and Forest Johnson, and one sister, Linda McGrew, all of Pahrump; and one brother, Kevin Johnson of Germany.

Ellouise McPeek, 82, of North Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 12, 1920, in Bogart, Mo. A resident for 2 1/2 years, she was a retired schoolteacher.

She is survived by three daughters, Connie Altman of North Las Vegas, Bettilee Ruff of Aberdeen, Idaho, and Mary Barker of Henderson; one son, Mike McPeek of Lone Jack, Mo.; one sister, Betty Lou Hayward of Lees Summit, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha; one daughter, Cindy, and one son, Paul Meier, both of New Jersey; and two grandchildren.

Arthur Middleton, 68, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born July 4, 1934, in Boston. A resident for 10 years, he was a county clerk, a Korean War Marine Corps veteran and a member of the Salvation Army.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; one son, Brendon Middleton of Alaska; and one sister, Jean Middleton of Escondido, Calif.

Bernard L. Nelson, 72, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 30, 1930, in Nevada, Iowa. A resident for 58 years, he was a truck driver for Wells Cargo and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Rita M.; two daughters, Tammie Brashears of Las Vegas and Cindy Leavitt of Spanish Fork, Utah; one son, Rory Nelson of Las Vegas; two brothers, Jim Nelson and Tom Nelson, both of Missouri; and five grandchildren.

Vincent Nucelli

Vincent Nucelli, 90, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 22, 1912, in Rochester, N.Y. A resident for 14 years, he was a retired chef.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; two daughters, Marie Thompson of Las Vegas and Anita Johnson of Primm; one brother, Angelo Nucelli of Rochester; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Glenn W. Nusbaum, 64, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospice. He was born Feb. 28, 1938, in Albany, N.Y. A resident for 25 years, he was a retired computer analyst for a health insurance company.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; two daughters, Lynn Pollom and Julie Nusbaum-Meenan, both of Las Vegas; one son, Glenn C. Nusbaum of San Diego; two brothers, W. Gene Nusbaum and Neil C. Nusbaum, both of Schenectady, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.

Manuel Rangel, 88, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospice. He was born Oct. 25, 1914, in Los Angeles. A resident for 12 years, he was employed by a water treatment plant.

He is survived by one son, Manuel Rangel Jr. of Los Angeles; three daughters, Victoria Adolph of Simi Valley, Calif., Vera Rangel Penland of Las Vegas and Barbara Bowers of Livermore, Calif.; one brother, Johnny Rangel of Las Vegas; four sisters, Connie Rojas of Azusa, Calif., Hilda Condella of La Puente, Calif., Minnie Morales of Baldwin Park, Calif., and Socorro Acosta of Hemet, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Joela B. Shulman, 58, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 2, 1944, in Detroit. A resident for three years, she was a retired elementary school teacher and computer strategist, active in the Democratic Party in Michigan and Nevada and was an accomplished artist.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald L.; one son, Adam I. Shulman of Hoboken, N.J.; and one brother, Joseph V. Acri of Fort Scott, Kan.

Fedelina H. Thorpe, 79, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 15, 1923, in Durango, Colo. A resident for 35 years, she was a retired saleswoman.

She is survived by one son, Dennis M. Thorpe of Las Vegas; and three sisters, Cora Vigil, Tina Vigil and Pauline Vigil, all of Salt Lake City.
