Mom charged in baby’s death out on bail

A Henderson woman charged with second-degree murder in the death of her 18-month-old daughter has been released from the Clark County Detention Center in the wake of a judge significantly reducing her bail.

Sophia Mendoza, 20, who prosecutors allege left her sick baby to die in a bedroom at her home, was released Wednesday after posting bond, according to court and jail records.

District Judge Donald Mosley earlier this week reduced Mendoza's bail from $250,000 to $100,000 after Mendoza invoked her right to go to trial in 60 days.

Mendoza and Demone Tisdale, 21, each are charged with murder and two counts of felony child endangerment and two counts of gross misdemeanor child abuse by neglect in connection with the condition of their other four children, who now are in county custody. Tisdale remains jailed on $500,000 bail.
