Savvy wine buys: Logan Chardonnay ‘00 Sleepy Hollow Vineyards

Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003 | 8:22 a.m.

This refreshing wine is produced by Robert Talbott Vineyards, a house that also produces a very fine chardonnay under that label. This wine is a stylistic alternative to its sister wine, in that it is less intense, less acidic and more tropical, but still a very good example of California chardonnay.

The wine is 65-percent barrel fermented, and then aged 12 months on French oak, which gives it a nice aging potential. It has a beautiful straw-gold color, and is fruit forward, with broad hints of pear and banana, and a lush sweetness that belies that fact that it has virtually no residual sugar at all.

Available at Las Vegas Wine Company, $18.99. (The 1999 vintage is available at the same price at Lee's Discount Liquor.)
