Man shot to death in robbery
Monday, Jan. 13, 2003 | 10:53 a.m.
North Las Vegas Police are searching for three people who broke into a home about 6 a.m. Sunday, then robbed, beat and fatally shot a 48-year-old man.
Minutes before he died, Ronald Marshall called 911 and said men broke into his home and shot him in the head. When police arrived three minutes later at his house in the 2000 block of Matheson Street, near Revere Street and Carey Avenue, they found him on the floor near his front door.
"He made a comment about three individuals," Officer Mark Martin said. "The 911 tape will be part of the evidence that we will review as part of the investigation."
Marshall was taken to University Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.
The motive is unclear, Martin said. It appeared the garage door had been forced open. Police aren't sure what was stolen from the house, or why Marshall would be a target.
"The investigation is in its infancy," Martin said. "A lot of the information is still sketchy."
This is North Las Vegas' first homicide of the year.
Berneice Fennell, who lives across the street from Marshall's house, said: "He had a rug cleaning business and in the morning, he'd be getting his truck ready and I'd wave at him. When I heard about this (killing) I was truly shocked."
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Secret Witness at 385-5555 or the North Las Vegas Detective Bureau at 633-1773.
