Typical winter fishing conditions have settled on Lake Mead with anglers having little or no success for largemouth and striped bass but fair action for rainbow trout following the weekly plants in the Boulder Basin.
One boater reported to the Nevada Division of Wildlife (NDOW) that he located stripers at 125 feet in Las Vegas Bay. However, the fish refused to take bait that was dropped to them.
"Now is the time of year when you have to spend a lot of time fishing to catch one or two stripers," said Jon Sjoberg, NDOW supervising fisheries biologist. "Warm water fish such as stripers and largemouth bass are deep and are just not very active at this time of year."
Rainbow trout fishing has been good for anglers who have been on hand for the plants. This week's stocking will take place today at Horsepower Cove, Hemenway Point, North Saddle Cove (B-3) and Pumphouse Cove (B-5).
There have been reports that boaters have caught largemouth bass and rainbow trout recently in coves around Cottonwood Cove. Stripers have been taken by trolling with squid in the narrows above Cottonwood.
