ROBERT PORTER
School: Bishop Gorman
Class: Senior
Sport: Basketball
Last week: The Gaels appear to be state title contenders once again this season, and the backcourt play of Porter is a reason why. Gorman rolled to a pair of wins over Utah squads last weekend, with Porter leading the team in scoring in both games. He registered 16 points to push Gorman past Snow Canyon, 74-44, Friday and came back the next night to put up 20 points, five assists, and five steals in the Gaels' 58-47 triumph over Pine View. Porter is one of two key returning starters from Gorman's 2001-02 run to the 4A State Championship, along with Mark Hill.
OSHAYLEE THOMAS
School: Chaparral
Class: Senior
Sport: Basketball
Last week: After rolling through non-conference play before the holidays, Chaparral put another feather in its cap with a victory in the Reid Gardner Tournament in Overton last weekend. Along the way, Thomas is spearheading the Chaparral offensive attack. In three wins in the tournament, the senior guard averaged more than 21 points per game, including a standout 26-point effort in Chaparral's 68-39 victory over Rancho in the championship game. Thomas scored 19 points in an earlier win over Rancho and in a triumph over Moapa Valley.
