Letter: Business leaders, senators should march into Iraq
Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 | 9:16 a.m.
Now that the holidays are over and the fake tree is stashed away in the garage along with those "Peace on Earth, Goodwill Toward Men" carols, President Bush can get on with his New Year's agenda -- banging on the war drum, world domination, tax cuts for his wealthy buddies and the demise of the U.S. Constitution.
Yep, the Reverse Robin Hood has yanked veterans benefits and denied home heating oil to the elderly in the northeastern U.S., all while pledging obscene amounts of money to Israel and the military industrial complex.
Do I sound like a malcontent? No, just a concerned citizen who doesn't want to join the brigades of the knee-jerk "patriots" who simply slap a U.S. flag decal they purchased at Wal-Mart on the fat bumper of their SUVs.
No, my "patriotism" will swell and burst with pride when those bloated, middle-aged, multimillionaire senators and business leaders personally jump into the front lines, with their M-16s blazing. Maybe just then I will believe that Saddam poses a big threat!
Until that time, I will dispense with watching the Chicken Little rhetoric of the mainstream media, "The sky is falling! The sky is falling!" Yeah, whatever.
