Savvy wine buys: Hedges Three Vineyards blend ‘99
Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 | 8:14 a.m.
The state of Washington has developed a reputation for great merlot during the past two decades, just as Oregon is now synonymous with pinot noir.
During the past three or four years, though, Washington winemakers have begun producing bordeaux-style blends of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc, such as this shining example.
This delicious wine has remarkably balanced tannins for one so young, a rich nose filled with hints of black and red currants and hints of vanilla.
At 13.8 percent, it is not as alcoholic as some of the competition. The price point allows it to compete with French wines at double the price.
Available at Lee's Discount Liquor, $18.99.
