Letter: Rich get richer under Bush plan for tax cuts
Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 | 9:14 a.m.
The arrogant persistence of President Bush to push for tax cuts for the wealthy is troublesome.
Instead, these already-too-wealthy capitalists should be charged a higher tax rate.
What would be more fair than to have the government hand out these additional revenues to the millions of middle class and poor workers who labored to provide the wealth for the wealthiest?
These funds could be used to benefit these long-ignored (by the government) workers with better health care (how the Hillary Clinton health care program would have been a big help), retirement, housing, unemployment and training aid, prescription drug plans and salary.
Call this socialism/liberalism if you must. It is certainly more just than the extreme capitalism, which benefits only the rich and their fraudulent CEOs, as espoused by President Bush.
Where is the politician who has the courage to carry the baton of liberalism? Unfortunately, one of the last true liberalists -- Paul Wellstone -- is dead.
And, the capitalists have the big bucks and lobbyists to attain their goal.
