Letter: Cigarettes are bad for Nevada
Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003 | 9:08 a.m.
A question to all smokers: Why? Are you not aware that cigarettes are killing you? You may have some sort of excuse. The one I seem to hear most often is "they relax me."
Truth is, cigarettes have been proven to have no calming effects -- they only cause stress, not to mention cancer.
Those of you who smoke are a bad example for Nevada's future. The national average of teenagers who will die prematurely from smoking cigarettes is lower than Nevada's average. No one can change this unless we, as Nevadans, speak up and work together. And if you smoke, you need to quit. Don't give me the "well, I'm addicted" nonsense either. It's called self-control, and if you don't have any, then go get yourself the patch.
Fellow citizens, start looking around. Wake up and realize Nevada isn't looking good and it's up to us to fix our problems, starting with tobacco prevention. Let's fix this problem. Together we can and will make an impact.
