Anglers continue to find good action for rainbow trout in Lake Mead following the Nevada Division of Wildlife's weekly plants. Striped bass are being caught in Las Vegas Bay and around the trout stocking locations after the plants.
This week's trout plants will be held today at Horsepower Cove, Hemenway Point, Pumphouse (B-5) and North Saddle (B-3) Cove.
The usual winter pattern has emerged for stripers as they have taken to deep water and are being caught at depths of 100 feet or more. The exception to this has been those stripers that have been caught closer to the lake's surface following the trout plants.
Anglers who have been fishing in the Overton Arm have had little cause for optimism as the striped bass fishing has slowed over the past few weeks. There have been some reports of a few stripers being caught around Fish Island and the Muddy River area, but the action has been slow.
There continues to be some reports of a small number of stripers being caught at Willow Beach following the trout plants. Some of those fish have weighed 10 pounds or more.
The action for stripers has been slow elsewhere in the lake. A few stripers weighing one to two pounds have been caught recently by boaters who have been trolling with squid and anchovies around the narrows above Cottonwood Cove.
