CARSON CITY -- The Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce is weighing in on the tax debate once again -- this time with a poll showing acceptance of the need for new taxes but disagreement on which ones should be opposed.
A survey by the Chamber's Center for Polling and Research found that 91 percent of Southern Nevada voters believe the budget shortfall is serious or very serious.
The poll of 435 registered voters was conducted in late January and has a margin of error of 4.69 percent.
Some key findings:
The chamber poll also found voters evenly split on the concept of a gross receipts tax.
Support decreased when voters were told the tax disregards a company's profit or loss. Opposition to the tax decreased when voters were told the first $450,000 of a business' receipts were exempt from the proposed quarter of 1 percent tax.
