CARSON CITY -- A bill to abolish capital punishment in Nevada has been introduced by Sen. Joe Neal, D-North Las Vegas, a longtime foe of the death penalty.
Neal said Wednesday the bill has little chance of passage this session.
"But I've got to keep trying," he said.
Senate Bill 217 would repeal capital punishment and commute the sentences of people on death row to life without parole. It was referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee for study.
Neal has introduced similar bills in past sessions without success.
There are 83 men and one woman on death row in Nevada.
