Women’s tennis team blanks San Jose

The 18th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team did not lose a set in a 7-0 whitewashing of former Big West and WAC rival San Jose State at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Sunday.
The Lady Rebels improved to 4-1, while the Spartans, who were without their top player because of injury, fell to 1-7.
UNLV opened the day by sweeping the three doubles matches for one team point. Paulina Janus and Agnieszka Abram won at the top spot 8-3, Tracie Chong and Cindy Treber combined for an 8-2 win at No. 2 and Gyorgyi Zsiros and Amy Hadziosmanovic teamed up for an 8-1 victory on Court Three.
In singles play, 85th-ranked Janus won 6-3, 6-2 over Coral Silverstone at the top position. At the second spot, No. 120 Gyorgyi Zsiros got by Noelle Lee 6-3, 6-4. Also winning in straight sets for UNLV were Chong at No.3, Treber at No. 4, Hadziosmanovic at No. 5 and Jackie White on Court Six.
UNLV will continue the homestand by hosting its three-day spring invitational beginning on Friday.
The Rebels slipped to 9-12, while ULM improved to 5-8.
UNLV is off next weekend.
