Friday, Feb. 21, 2003 | 10:09 a.m.
Even without playing a match, the UNLV women's team improved two spots to No. 18 in the Omni Hotels Intercollegiate Tennis Rankings released Thursday.
The Rebels (2-1) host UC Riverside today at 2 p.m. and San Jose State at 10 a.m. Sunday.
The nation's No. 1 team, Duke, will visit UNLV for the first time on March 12. The Rebel men's team was not ranked in this week's poll.
Arbitration yields low average pay increase
The slowdown in baseball's free-agent market spilled over to the 72 players in salary arbitration.
The average salary increase for the players in arbitration was 92 percent, according to a study by the Associated Press. That's down from a 130 percent rise last year and is the lowest hike since 1996, when salaries for players in arbitration rose 73 percent.
