The Volunteer Center of Southern Nevada has been chosen as a lead agency for the 15th Annual National Youth Service Day.
Fifty lead agencies from across the country will coordinate local, regional and stateside celebrations for the public education event April 11-13. The event salutes volunteering and encourages volunteer recruitment.
"Youth in Las Vegas are making meaningful contributions to our community every day," said Holly Adamson, a Clark High School student and local youth spokeswoman for National Youth Service Day. "This national day of youth service gives us a chance to spotlight how youth are making our community a better place and to encourage more of our peers to get involved."'
Las Vegas' program kicks off at 8 a.m. April 12 with a celebration at Lorenzi Park, Washington Avenue at Twin Lakes Drive.
National Youth Service Day is billed as the largest event of its kind in the world because it involves millions of young people and draws together a consortium of local, regional and national organizations. Youth from 150 other nations are expected to participate in the Fourth Annual Global Youth Service Day, which runs concurrent with the U.S. event.
