Arts classes

Registration for Las Vegas' Cultural Affairs Division's art classes March 11 through April 19 will be Tuesday through March 6 at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Latin films

Las Vegas' Cultural Affairs Division presents four films from Latin American directors at 2 p.m. Sundays in February at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St. Admission is $4. 229-6383.

Poet's corner

Las Vegas' Cultural Affairs Division presents "Poet's Corner," a forum for established and open-mike participants, at 7 p.m. today at the West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Admission is free. 229-4800.

Contest

A workshop for children entering PBS's "Reading Rainbow's" young writer and illustrator contest will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble, 567 N. Stephanie St. Art and writing material will be available. Admission is free. 434-1533

Benefit

An ALS Association benefit will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at The Venetian. All proceeds benefit the ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) Nevada Chapter. Admission is $50, $75 and $100. 260-7200.

Scholarship benefit

The Community College of Southern Nevada will hold a scholarship fund-raiser at 7 p.m. Saturday at the June Whitley Student Center on the Cheyenne campus. There will be hors d'oeuvres, drinks, art, jazz and a silent auction. Admission is $30; $25 in advance. People under age 21 will not be admitted. 651-4440.

Auditions

Theatre in the Valley will be holding auditions for "Cliffhanger" at 1 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Monday at the Lorna J. Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St., Henderson. Cast requirements are men 20 to 60 years of age and women 40 to 60 years of age. 558-7275.

Fund-raiser

Jade and Friends Gala Fund-raiser will be at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Summerlin Performing Arts Center, 1771 Inner Circle Drive. The Pat Demain Band will perform Broadway songs. Admission is $17.50; $15 for seniors; $13.50 for ages 12 and under. 263-6385.

Dinner, ballet

Nevada Ballet Theatre and Gustav present a pre-opening dinner and ballet performance at 5 p.m. today at Spiedini at the JW Marriott resort. Admission is $75. Proceeds benefit Nevada Ballet Theatre. 242-4495.

Celebrate

Clark County Parks and Community Services and the Las Vegas Clark County Library District present "Celebration of Culture VII: Soul Legacy" at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Flamingo Library Theater, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. Admission is $10 for the luncheon, but the program is free. 455-7006 or 455-7004.
