HOUSTON POWER
School: Durango
Class: Junior
Sport: Basketball
Last week: The Blazers enjoyed their best week of the season, and Power made major contributions to both of Durango's victories. The junior transfer from Centennial started off with a sterling effort against Clark, pouring in 30 points as the Blazers downed the Chargers, 87-65, Wednesday. Durango came back Friday and earned its biggest victory of the season with a 76-71 win at Bishop Gorman. Power was one of three Durango players to score 13 points in the upset. Durango won its Sunset Region quarterfinal over Centennial Wednesday, and the Blazers take on Cheyenne Friday.
KIM FOX
School: Chaparral
Class: Senior
Sport: Basketball
Last week: Chaparral needed some big efforts in order to earn a first-round home playoff game, and Fox twice came up big last week for the Cowboys. In Chaparral's biggest game of the week, Fox scored 22 points and pulled down 18 rebounds to lead her squad to a 65-58 over Valley, which Chaparral edged out for the Northeast's No. 2 seed. Fox came back with a 22-point showing to help Chaparral get past Rancho, 66-50, Friday. Chaparral won its Sunrise Region quarterfinal over Silverado Wednesday, and the Cowboys face Green Valley Friday.
