Currently: Just 10 days ago, Tremmell Darden continued his excellent career at Niagara, scoring the 1,000th point of his career in an 85-74 victory at Fairfield. Darden, a 6-foot-4 junior guard for the upstate New York school, is a major contributor for the Eagles, averaging 17.2 points and 5.8 rebounds through the team's first 23 games. Darden also leads the team in steals (34) and ranks second in assists (51). His 35.9 minutes per game lead the team. After a sophomore campaign in which Darden earned third-team All-MAAC honors, he and the Eagles are 13-10 (9-5 MAAC) this season.
Looking back: Darden shined as a member of Las Vegas' 2000 team that qualified for the 4A State Tournament. During that season, Darden averaged 21 points and 9.8 rebounds to help lead the Wildcats to the state quarterfinals. Las Vegas finished 24-7 that year. A two-year starter at Las Vegas, Darden earned first-team All-State honors as a senior. Able to use his athleticism to get to the hoop, Darden shot a sizzling 63 percent from the field during his senior year.
