Two pedestrians hit in separate accidents; one dies

Two jaywalking pedestrians were hit by vehicles in separate incidents Tuesday night, and one man died, Metro Police said.
About 10 p.m. a man running across Tropicana Avenue midblock, west of the intersection with Mountain Vista Drive, was hit by a white Cadillac. A brown "Honda-style" car then drove over the man, police said.
Both cars failed to stop and fled eastbound. The drivers could be facing felony hit-and-run charges, even though the pedestrian appears to be at fault.
The man, whose identity was not released, was taken to University Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.
About an hour later a man was killed after he was hit by a van while jaywalking across Maryland Parkway near Sunrise Hospital Drive, police said.
Richard Hall, 47, of Las Vegas tried to avoid hitting the man, but the front of his 1999 Ford E-350 van struck him and knocked him to the ground. The man was taken to University Medical Center, where he died. Alcohol and jaywalking appear to be the cause of the crash, police said.
Hall was not hurt and no charges are expected, police said.
The man's identity was being withheld pending notification of his family, the Clark County coroner's office said this morning.
