Alleged thief robbed, police say

Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003 | 10:58 a.m.

A man who had just robbed a sandwich store apparently bragged about it to four younger men who promptly tied him up, beat him and robbed him of his loot, Metro Police said.

Spencer Webb, 37, had taken money from the cash register and also had stolen personal property from a woman who was working at a Subway sandwich shop at 3180 E. Desert Inn Road about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Lt. Ted Snodgrass said.

About three hours after the robbery, Webb ran into Mark Williams, 19, Clinton Rohde, 20, and two younger teens at an apartment near Sandhill Road and Boulder Highway. After Webb told them he had just committed a robbery, and the quartet threatened Webb with weapons, tied him up, smacked him around, and then emptied his pockets before sending him on his way, police said.

Officers saw Webb walking down the street and realized he matched the description from the Subway robbery. When they stopped him and questioned him, Webb complained to the officers he had just been robbed, Snodgrass said.

Police took Webb back to the sandwich shop where he was identified by the employee, Snodgrass said.

Police arrested Webb and his four alleged assailants on robbery and kidnapping charges and all were booked into jail. The two youngest members of the group were taken to Clark County Juvenile Detention Center.

Officers recovered the stolen property and confiscated guns, knives and other evidence from the second robbery.
