Continental, others cancel fare increase
Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 | 9:34 a.m.
HOUSTON -- After announcing they were raising fares by $20 per round trip to offset higher fuel prices, Continental Airlines and other carriers have backed off.
Houston's Continental, the No. 5 U.S. carrier, began the price hike Friday on all routes.
After Continental's initial move, American Airlines followed along with Delta, United, US Airways, American Trans Air, Midwest Express and America West airlines.
But Continental pulled back on the increase because of the highly competitive air travel environment and after Northwest Airlines did not go along with the increase.
