Workshop planned on college aid
Monday, Feb. 17, 2003 | 8:38 a.m.
High school students and their families are invited to a free workshop tonight on applying for college financial aid, from 5:30 to 7:30 at SLM Corp., or Sallie Mae, 10550 W. Charleston Blvd.
Attendees will also be eligible to receive a $500 scholarship toward the cost of higher education.
The event will give students and their families an opportunity to receive hands-on assistance to complete the FAFSA, free application for federal student aid. All college-bound students must file the FAFSA as an important first step toward applying for financial aid.
The FAFSA is used to determine students' aid eligibility and should be submitted before college application deadlines.
To receive maximum benefit from the workshop, students and parents should bring the following documentation with them: Income documentation (2002 tax return or estimate, W-2 forms, other records of money earned); current bank statement; current mortgage information; records of investments; student's driver's license and social security number.
Individuals interested in attending should call 804-4338 for reservations.
