Letter: It pays more to be casino worker than a teacher

Regarding Susan Snyder's Feb. 9 column, "Cleaning up a messy Beers spill":

She wrote that educated people here in Vegas can earn more money by selling cocktails in a casino than by using their education in a classroom. How true.

I overheard a conversation in a waiting room in which a woman noted that her husband had a degree in education but had been working as a valet at a major casino for the past six years. He was now looking for a career change by going into teaching. However, the family wasn't so sure that they would be able to live on the big cut in salary he was going to have to take.

So you're right, Susan. The industry Nevada values the least is the public education system.
