Union stages protest
Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003 | 11:12 a.m.
About 400 members of the Culinary Union and the Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees (UNITE!) protested on the Las Vegas Strip Wednesday.
The union members claim that Cintas, a uniform laundry company, has uniforms made in Mexican sweatshops. Union members also say workers that launder uniforms in a North Las Vegas Cintas plant need better pay and better working conditions.
The protest march was part of an international campaign launched this month by UNITE ! to help Cintas workers unionize in more than 300 plants in the U.S. and Canada. Cintas, which has operations in North Las Vegas, Henderson and Sparks, sells and launders uniforms for many Las Vegas hotels and casinos. Cintas has disputed the union's charges.
