Suspect car described in hit-and-run death

Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 | 9:57 a.m.

North Las Vegas Police are searching for a 1997 Mercedes-Benz, 4-door sports sedan, silver or gray, that is a suspect vehicle in a hit-and-run accident that killed a man Wednesday night in the 4000 block of West Cheyenne Avenue.

Officers found the body of Jimmie Lee Vernon, 32, of North Las Vegas near the street's median about 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Mercedes is one of only 10 sold in Southern Nevada during 1997, police said. The specific make and model of the car was only made in 1997.

It is not known, however, whether the vehicle in question was one of the local cars.

The vehicle should have substantial damage to the front end bumper, including a broken headlight or turn signal.

Anyone having information about this vehicle or any other information that they feel may be important to this investigation is asked to call North Las Vegas Police at 633-1743 or 633-1744.
