Stupak not running for council this time
Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 | 11:10 a.m.
Nevada Stupak, who four years ago almost unseated Las Vegas Councilman Gary Reese, announced Thursday he will not run for the council seat this year.
Reese beat Stupak by just 139 votes in the 1999 race for Ward 3. In a statement released Thursday, Stupak said he will not run for council and he is looking forward to helping Reese and Mayor Oscar Goodman in their campaigns for re-election.
As of this morning Reese's opponents were Fernando Romero, a civic activist and member of the Latin Chamber of Commerce, and Keith Vanderwyst, who has lived in Las Vegas for three months.
In Henderson, Jesse Harris filed to run for the Ward 2 City Council seat this morning.
Harris will be going up against incumbent Councilman Andy Hafen, and fellow challengers Rocco Tucker and Briana Ousley-Mitchell.
