Las Vegas Area Fishing Report: Wind slows fishing at Lake Mead

Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 | 9:32 a.m.

NEVADA DIVISION OF WILDLIFE

Windy weather over the last week has slowed fishing considerably. In fact, Nevada Division of Wildlife (NDOW) creel clerks contacted very few anglers over the past weekend at Lake Mead.

However, anglers who did brave the blustery conditions were still reportedly catching small stripers near the Virgin River and Fish Island in the Overton Arm.

NDOW will stock Hemenway Cove, Horsepower Cove, Pumphouse Cove (B5) and North Saddle Cove (B3) today.

Three stripers, weighing 28, 13 and 10 pounds, were caught along with many smaller fish. The stripers were caught on a Castiac and other trout imitation lures. Trout anglers also did well, catching limits both days.

NDOW stocked Willow Beach on Thursday.

Cave Lake is frozen with the ice thickness at 8-10 inches. Illiapah Reservoir is unsafe with very thin ice. Comins Lake has open water surrounding a floating ice patch in the center.
