Look at the stars at Red Rock

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes, walks and programs free of charge. To make required reservations or for more information on upcoming programs, call 363-1922:

Coyote Kids: An ongoing program from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Kids of all ages are invited to the Visitor Center for interactive environmental learning and crafts related to Red Rock.

Astronomy Program: A slide presentation from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. Members will share telescopes to look at objects in the sky.

Circle the Gate: A 10-mile strenuous hike up the wash through the Gateway, and around the hills with Melissa Saturday.

Pine Creek Adventure: A two-mile easy hike. Explore and learn some of the histories and mysteries of the past, Sunday.

Fossils Above and Below, They're Everywhere: A five-mile moderate hike. Ranger Jack will climb up rocky Fossil Canyon to the James Hardie mine then loop back again toward Fossil Ridge and Cowboy Trails, Sunday.

Ten to the Top:Water ecology will be the focus while on the trail, a 1 1/2 mile moderate to strenuous hike Sunday.

Dales Trail: A three-mile moderate hike Thursday to explore, and view Red Rock.

Laughter can be good for you

Entertainer Tulara Lee will focus on laughter and longevity at the Las Vegas FMS/CFS support group meeting Sunday at Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center.

Lee, who has appeared on the "Ed Sullivan Show," toured with Rowan and Martin and entertained troops in the South Pacific during World War II, will entertain members of the group and other guests in the hospital's dining room, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

$1,000 prize set for poetry contest

A $1,000 grand prize is being offered in a special religious poetry contest sponsored by Friendly Poets Society, free to everyone. There are over 50 prizes, totaling almost $5,000.

To enter, send one poem of 21 lines or less to Free Poetry Contest, 2255 N University Parkway, Suite 15, No. 196, Provo, UT 84604. Or enter online at www.friendlypoets.com. The deadline for entering is March 5.

Poems may be written on any subject, using any style, as long as there is a spiritual inference. A typical poem might be a love poem, or nature poem, one that inspires the reader.

Be sure your name and address appears on the page with your poem. A winner's list will be sent to all entrants.

Brandeis University National Women's Committee

Neiman Marcus will host
