Nurse gets higher bail in sex case

Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003 | 9:31 a.m.

A Las Vegas justice of the peace on Tuesday raised bail for the nurse accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl at University Medical Center.

Jared Riser faces three counts of sexual assault of a minor under 14 and one count of lewdness with a minor under 14 in connection with the fondling of a patient.

Justice of the Peace Nancy Oesterle raised Riser's bail from $55,000 to $130,000.

Riser, 20, is being held at the Clark County Detention Center. He faces 20 years to life in prison if convicted.

Riser was expected to have a preliminary hearing before Oesterle Tuesday, but the hearing was postponed until Feb. 24.

Authorities say the incident took place on Christmas Day. Riser was fired from UMC a few weeks after the alleged attack.
