Letter: Elect officials who can solve our tax problems
Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003 | 9:03 a.m.
Recently, as of no surprise to our residents, Nevada was given the honor of having the "Worst Tax System" of the 50 states in our nation. Our current tax system hits the poorest people the most with the continued failure of finding new sources of revenue, fairness to our taxpaying residents and, most of all, mismanagement of our taxpaying dollars.
Our current lawmakers and politicians fail to take advantage of taxing the casinos a higher dollar amount and attacking the tourist sector to provide tax relief and to fund various state projects. They have also failed at securing big business to call Nevada their home.
As residents, we need to ensure that our elected officials find innovative solutions to our current and future problems. Our current elected officials lack the commitment and experience needed to provide our state with financially strong, responsible end results that will have a positive effect on all.
We, as residents, need to take a closer look at our elected officials. In the future I encourage our residents to locate candidates that will breathe some fresh air into our legislative process. Candidates with fresh ideas and solutions to our problems.
This would be a stark contrast to the smoke-filled back room, hand-shake-under-the-table, rubber-stamp political operation.
