African store will host art contest
The African and World Import Store will sponsor an art contest for both secondary and elementary students from noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 15 at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas' Moyer Student Union Ballroom.
Entries for event celebrating Black History Month can be delivered through the Clark County School Mail to the Partnership Office, or drop them off at the African and World Import Store at the Boulevard mall with name, grade, school, and address on the back.
The theme for the event is Family Foundation. Submissions deadline is Friday.

Tax assistance given to seniors
The AARP Tax Assistance Program will be at the Senior Friends Sunrise office from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday at 3101 S. Maryland Parkway Suite 314.
Volunteers are trained by the Internal Revenue Service and will assist seniors in filling out forms.

Help offered by assessor's office
The Clark County assessor's office is accepting applications for its Senior Citizens Property Tax/Rent Assistance Program.
To qualify, seniors must be 62 by June 30, 2003; a Nevada resident since July 1, 2002; own or rent property in Clark County; and have a total household income of $24,016 or less.

Black tie fashion show set Saturday
Neiman Marcus will present its Black Tie Gala fashion show at 7 p.m. Saturday at The Fashion Show, 3200 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
The event will honor Susan and Irwin Molasky, longtime hospice supporters and philanthropists. Steve and Elaine Wynn are the honorary dinner chairs.
Tickets are $500, and sponsorships are available.

The Lied Animal Shelter
is encouraging Las Vegans to Meet The Great Love of Your Life by adopting a homeless dog or cat now through Valentine's Day at the animal shelter, 655 N. Mojave Road. The animal shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday through Sunday. Call 384-3333.
