CARSON CITY -- The Nevada Legislature is in town -- let the parties and receptions begin.
The lawmakers opened their session today and they will be hosted Tuesday night at a "welcoming reception" by Carson City. And there are 20 other parties, lunches or receptions scheduled during the month.
Everybody from nurses to schoolteachers to miners to law enforcements officials will host the legislators during the month.
For instance a group called the Safety Net Provider will provide breakfast, lunch and dessert for the lawmakers on Wednesday. The Nevada Mining Association roll out the red carpet for the legislators at a reception Thursday at the Carson Nugget.
There's a Chinese New Year dinner reception in Sparks next Monday and the Nevada Broadcasters Association sponsors a luncheon Feb. 11. The University of Nevada, Reno hosts its traditional Silver and Blue Dinner Feb. 12 at the Carson Nugget.
The Nevada State Education Association, the union of schoolteachers, will hold a reception at the governor's mansion by invitation only on Feb. 13.
During the month, the Legislature will hear addresses by U.S. Sens. Harry Reid and John Ensign, Rep. Jim Gibbons and Nevada Supreme Court Chief Justice Deborah Agosti. And the month concludes with a luncheon hosted on Feb. 27 by the Nevada Press Women.
