Letter: Democrats must answer neocons in 2004 election
Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003 | 9:36 a.m.
If the purpose of politics in a democracy is to provide freedom and quality of life to the greatest number of people, this goal has not been well served by the current administration.
There are two things that must happen if we are to elect a government that represents the interests of all the people. First, the parts of the media that are not just an arm of the Republican Party must get out of bed with the military and stop being intimidated by the shrill rhetoric of the conservatives. Second, the Democrats have to stop being the left wing of the Republican Party and start representing the interests of the people.
It is past time for the Democrats to get their message out there. The vision of inclusion and optimism is more powerful than anything Karl Rove can throw at them from his mud puddle. Besides, with four more years of Bush, all dissent may be considered an act of terrorism.
