Man killed in one-car crash
A 20-year-old Reno man died after he lost control of a Mazda RX8 about 10 a.m. Tuesday while driving on Charleston Boulevard east of Buffalo Drive, Metro Police said.
The driver, Josey Lee Ungerman, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at University Medical Center, police said. His passenger, Harold Towne, 50, of Las Vegas, who was identified as a car salesman, was treated for moderate injuries and released.
The driver was apparently taking the car on a test ride when he lost control and left the roadway, striking a tree and a power box, Metro Police Sgt. Frank Weigand said.
It appears that the vehicle was going too fast for the wet weather conditions, police said. It was the 125th fatal traffic accident in Metro's jurisdiction this year, the third since Christmas Eve.
Woman shot to death is ID'd
A woman found shot to death early Monday in a room at the La Palm motel, 2512 E. Fremont St., has been identified as Donna Lynn Diehl, 43, address unknown.
Witnesses told police they saw four men leaving the room. Police are continuing their investigation. No arrests have been made.
Anyone with information about the case can call Metro's homicide section at 229-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
Pork sausage recalled in Nevada
A Wisconsin firm is voluntarily recalling 46,800 pounds of pork sausage shipped to seven states, including Nevada, because the label doesn't list potential ingredients that could cause allergies, the U.S. Agriculture Department said.
The products being recalled contain whey, nonfat dry milk and wheat flour, which can cause allergies in sensitive people, the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service said Tuesday.
The pork sausage was shipped from Abbyland Foods, Inc., of Abbotsford, Wis.
The sausage in one-pound packages labeled "Gourmet Banger" was sent to retail stores in California, Florida and Nevada between Jan. 1 and Tuesday. The case code is 490100 and the establishment number inside the inspection mark is 1633.
Also under recall are 10-pound packages of Gourmet Banger bearing the case code 490210 and the company's name and address. These products were sent during the same time frame to restaurants and other institutions in California, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Nevada and Pennsylvania.
The federal agency has not received any reports of allergic reactions associated with consuming the sausage. The error was found by a USDA inspector.
Woman in alleged murder-suicide ID'd
A woman who was shot and killed in an alleged murder-suicide Tuesday morning in Summerlin has been identified as 34-year-old Kimberly D. Jackson of Las Vegas.
Police said a woman called 911 shortly after 12:30 a.m. and said her husband was trying to kill her. As officers arrived at the home in the 10300 block of Forum Hills Place, they heard gunshots and found Jackson and a man shot.
Jackson died minutes after she was shot and the man was dead, police said.
A spokeswoman for the Clark County coroner's office said the man has not been positively identified. The home where the two bodies were found is owned by Douglas Mulholland, according to property records on the Clark County assessor's website.
