Letter: Protect Red Rock from Station plan
Monday, Dec. 29, 2003 | 9:32 a.m.
On Dec. 3, some commissioners called for the proponents and opponents to come back with a compromise. This is not an issue to compromise on. Station Casinos executives knew what the restrictions were before they purchased the property and developed their plans. Zoning put together a few years ago should mean something. Approaches to and from the Red Rock National Conservation Area must be protected.
Currently it is a good gradual transition from the high-rise downtown and the Strip to less than 100 feet in height for commercial and residential buildings and then on into Red Rock. Let's not bring high rise to the edge of this national treasure. A Green Valley Ranch Station Casino would be appropriate for the area, but no more!
We all need the vision to what the western edge of our great community should be in the coming decades. As our population grows, the open space and night sky of Red Rock will become more precious. Let us not screw it up!
No waiver! Period!
