Fishing report: Winter temperatures having usual effects

NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE

Typical winter fishing has descended on the lake as a result of cooler water temperatures that is sending striped bass and other warm water game fish to deeper water, according to the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW).

Boaters have been reporting to NDOW that they are finding stripers at depths of 100 to 120 feet near Las Vegas Wash and the 33 Hole. One shore fisherman told NDOW that he caught several stripers ranging from three to six pounds on Monday morning at Pumphouse Cove with a Cordell Spot lure.

Rainbow trout fishing has been fairly good following the plants in the Boulder Basin.

The next plants are scheduled to take place Saturday at Hemenway, Horsepower, Pumphouse and Saddle coves.

NDOW is scheduled to stock rainbow trout at Placer Cove, Willow Beach, Power Line Cove and Cottonwood Cove on Saturday.

Haymeadow and Cold Springs reservoirs are completely covered with ice. The ice is approximately 2 1/2 inches thick and is not yet safe for ice fishing.
