Throughout December, employees at Wal-Mart stores are giving $38,500 in donations to area nonprofit and civic organizations as part of the company's nationwide holiday giving efforts.
The holiday grants will be used to help fund projects or purchase needed items for tax-exempt organizations, public schools and government agencies, a Wal-Mart spokeswoman said.
Local recipients include Candlelighters for Childhood Cancer of Southern Nevada, receiving $4,500 for medical research and equipment, Temporary Assistance for Domestic Crisis, Inc., receiving $4,500 for emergency clothing and personal items, Hope for the Homeless Ministries, receiving $4,000 to purchase food and clothing, Las Vegas Rescue Mission, receiving $1,000 for holiday dinner sand food baskets, and Variety Day Home, receiving $1,000 for care and education of the children.
In addition to the holiday grants, Wal-Mart and SAM'S CLUB locations will contribute more than $13 million from November until January as part of their year-round support of local organizations.
