Vern’s Moses Lake Meats recalls beef
Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003 | 9:44 a.m.
Vern's Moses Lake Meats, a Moses Lake, Wash., meat distribution company, announced a voluntary recall of about 10,410 pounds of raw beef that may have been exposed to tissues containing the infectious agent that causes mad cow disease.
The beef involved in the recall was produced on Dec. 9, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Safety Inspection Service said today.
Although there is an extremely low likelihood that the beef being recalled contains the agent that causes bovine spongiform encephalopathy and the cuts of meat are not expected to be infected, the company agreed to the recall.
For more information about the recall, call Tom Ellestad, company secretary, at (509) 765-4182 or the USDA hotline, (888) MPHotline.
