Suspect arrested in fatal shooting

Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003 | 9:24 a.m.

A man suspected of killing a 23-year-old Las Vegas man on Friday night was arrested Monday by Metro and North Las Vegas police officers.

Mario Anthony Martinez, 30, of North Las Vegas was taken into custody about 7:40 p.m. after Metro officers found him in an apartment complex in the 3800 block of Dalecrest Drive, near Alexander Road and Tenaya Way, said Officer Justin Roberts, a North Las Vegas Police spokesman.

Police contacted people inside the apartment where the suspect was, Roberts said.

"They convinced him to come out and he was taken into custody without incident," Roberts said.

Martinez was booked into the North Las Vegas Detention Center on one count of murder with the use of a deadly weapon, Roberts said.

North Las Vegas police had been searching for Martinez since about 5 p.m. Friday, when 23-year-old David Stovall of Las Vegas was shot to death.

Police said Stovall had driven to 4915 Berg St., near Craig and Losee roads, apparently to give someone a ride home.

When the Stovall arrived, Martinez confronted him, police said. The two argued before the shooting, police said.

Stovall was taken to University Medical Center, but died from his wounds shortly after 6 p.m., police said.
